Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China)——Workplace and Employee Health and Wellbeing Assessment Report

Based on information and data obtained from the "2018 Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China)", the assessment illustrates the overall workplace health and employee health and wellbeing of the companies that participated in this survey. The aim of this report is to promote overall workplace health in mainland China. 

14,195 employees participated in the survey including 1,700 employees from middle and senior management. 

Core Content (Excerpt)
The implementation of national policies involving the health rights and interests of employees was relatively well, including medical insurance, health examinations, and the prevention and control of occupational hazards. Most of the companies took into account the health of their employees when implementing policies, which protects the health rights and interests of employees.
 

There was a gap between the content of employee health education and the main health issues and needs. Mental health needs were not fully met, and health education was mainly in the form of lectures, which were relatively tedious and bland and had low participation rate.

Employees’ chronic disease status
 

Employees reported multiple skeletal muscle problems, more than half of which were varying degrees of pain or numbness in the shoulder, neck, and upper back, with 40% employees varying degrees of pain or numbness at the waist.

Combine health education with induction training and job training, establish a long-term mechanism for employee health education, and increase the participation rate of employees in health education activities. 

Innovate the forms of health education, use both online and offline channels with a combination of traditional and digital technology methods to conduct health education.

Channels for companies to provide employee health education
 

Compliance with national policies to maintain and protect the health rights and interests of employees is the "basic configuration" of companies’ health policies. Health and welfare as an integral part of employee welfare will increasingly affect employees’ views and evaluations of company welfare. There are differences in health and welfare between companies, which could become another means of improving company competitiveness for talents.

Methodology and Data Sources
Participated in this survey were the companies who voluntarily signed up for the “Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China)”. The contents of the survey, and data collection methods were finalized by the Advisory Committee of the "Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China)", and the survey was also approved by the Peking University Health Sciences Center Ethics Committee (IRB00001052-18055). 

About Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China)
"Asia Best Workplace (Mainland China) 2019" is organized by AIA Group Limited, supported by Peking University School of Public Health as the academic partner, and co-organized together with China's leading Human Resource media company HRoot. The aim of this selection activity is to help companies understand information relevant to workplace health and employee health, improve their workplace health policies and environment, and promote employees’ health and wellbeing. Participating firms which finish the survey will receive their own professional analysis report in terms of the overall workplace health. The participation is cost free.
